The Gospel Rescue Mission of Grants Pass is a working Mission. This means that beginning the day after a resident checks in, he or she is assigned a chore to be completed daily. He or she is also assigned a site to work during the week. These positions are unpaid. A resident works in trade for his or her food, clothing and shelter. The Board and Staff of the Gospel Rescue Mission firmly believe that when a person is in need they must not be given a hand-out but a hand-up. They often come from a lifestyle which involved inconsistency and laziness. We want to help them grow out of this. This is reflected in our work policy. If a man or woman was allowed to just sit and do nothing, it would be to their detriment. So instead, we give them truly helpful and meaningful work that helps them to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
