Beyond the walls of the Mission, a unique tradition thrives—one that brings the staff together in a weekly Bible study. This time of fellowship between staff members has become a beloved perk of working at the Mission. The study sessions provide an opportunity for reflection, fostering a deeper understanding of faith and its role in their lives. Currently, they are reading and discussing “The Reason For God” by Timothy Keller.
Keller’s work, recognized as a go-to book for Christian apologetics, offers a comprehensive exploration of the foundations of faith, addressing common doubts and concerns. This not only reinforces the staff’s own convictions but equips them with the knowledge to more effectively share their faith with residents. The book serves as a catalyst for stimulating discussions and thought-provoking conversations during the study sessions.
The impact of the Bible study doesn’t stop with the staff; it trickles down into the resident population at the Grants Pass Gospel Rescue Mission. The knowledge gained through the weekly meeting becomes a tool for the staff to connect with and guide the residents on their spiritual walk. Bobby Gali, Men’s Coordinator, gives input: “Staff Bible study is a good reminder each week of why we work here-to change lives physically and spiritually. The closer my relationship with the Lord is, the better I will be at this. The more I get filled up, the more I can pour into the residents.”
In a world often marked by uncertainty and challenges, the “Gospel” in the “Gospel Rescue Mission” is not exclusive to the residents—it is a guiding light for the staff as well. The weekly Bible study reinforces the Mission’s commitment to its core values, fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their role, is encouraged to grow spiritually and find meaning in their work.
”The gospel says you are simultaneously more sinful and flawed than you ever dared believe, yet more loved and accepted than you ever dared hope.
Timothy Keller
