What a crazy year!

In 2024, we’ve been on the front lines of the national discussion on homelessness in all the major legacy media outlets across the country, all the way up to being discussed by the US Supreme Court.  We have watched our city leadership change, with all of the new leaders coming and touring our facilities and learning about our program.  We have been blessed to find and purchase property that will serve our newest project, MissionView Village.  And of course, we have been able to walk with hundreds of homeless individuals and help many of them see their lives transformed to one of independence and homefullness.  We have a lot to be thankful for!

God’s grace towards us has been so good and abundant, and He has certainly used you in this process.  None of this could be done without your support, prayers, and encouragement.  My staff and I often look at one another and are filled with joy at the thought that we have such wonderful callings that we get to call our “job.”  As we pray and ask God for direction, we do so confidently, knowing that He will move His people to help make resources available to accomplish all that He asks of us.  So we always ask Him for tasks so big that only He could make them happen.

That is the nature of what we do at the Gospel Rescue Mission.  We ask for and believe in changes so big, from physical healing to addiction recovery, from lifetimes of poverty to financial independence, from homeless to homeful, that only God Himself can take the true credit.  It’s a grace to us that He allows us to be a part of the journey.

To you and your family, my staff and I wish to send you our most sincere thank you!   We couldn’t do what we do without you, nor would we want to.  We love to celebrate with you whenever we see one another at church, chat on social media, run into each other around town, or visit on the phone.  Our prayer for you is that God will continue to bless you and your loved ones as we consider this Thanksgiving season as we look forward together to the God sized challenges, dreams, and opportunities in the coming years.

Join Us This Thanksgiving!

If you or someone you know has nowhere to go for Thanksgiving dinner, consider joining us at the Gospel Rescue Mission!  We will serve turkey with all that goes with it (and usually a few surprises as well).  Come have food, fellowship, and give thanks to Almighty God for all His great and mighty works throughout the year.  Doors open from 12noon to 3pm and everyone is welcome.  Home baked goods are always welcome as well!  Don’t spend the holiday alone, come join the fun!

We’ve probably all heard the proverbial story of the person walking on a beach that is covered with starfish who has decided to help.  He may not be able to save them all due to the scale of the problem compared to the size of the help, but for each one that he picks up off the dry beach and pitches back into the ocean, he has changed that one for good.  Efforts to solve the problem of homelessness can feel much the same.  We realize that we can’t save the whole problem simply because of the enormity and diversity of its scale, but wisdom offers us opportunities to truly reach segments of the homeless population very effectively.  At the Grants Pass Gospel Rescue Mission, this is what we have in mind with our MissionView Village project, and we’re hoping you’ll help us.

There is a significant and growing number in the homeless population that are senior citizens trying to survive on a fixed low, retirement, or social security income.  They are physically incapable of competing in the job market with younger wage earners leaving them further incapable of competing in the rising housing market.  Often, they try to live in a vehicle if they are fortunate enough to have one, but this is no way to live, and as a result we see many of them entering into the Gospel Rescue Mission program.  Getting them into our program is one thing, but where will they go from there?  MissionView Village is our attempt at creating a solution for them.

What is MissionView?  It’s a community of 19 small duplexes, tiny homes, built to the best of standard building practices.  Each 450 square foot home will be entirely self-contained with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen & living room, including all the necessary appliances for residents to truly live independently.  It will be located at 1650 Harbeck Road in Grants Pass, conveniently near shopping, pharmacies, a full range of medical care, restaurants and recreation.  It’s a small safe place for a person to call home.

We have the land, but we need your help to complete the project.  We have a $500k matching grant that we need to fill in order to get started on our next phase.  Come help be a part of a great effort to help our seniors, struggling with homelessness due to a fixed low income, discover homefullness for good!  Learn more and give at grantspassmission.org.
